The body of a man - believed to be that of husband and father Geoff Hunt - and a gun were recovered from a dam on Wednesday, almost 24 hours after Kim Hunt and her three children were found dead at a nearby house.
About 3pm on Tuesday, Mrs Hunt's body was located on a path at the rear of the house by a member of the public who visited the property.
Her son Fletcher, 10, and daughters, Mia, 8, and Phoebe, 6, were later found inside.
Post mortems will determine how they died, but it's believed they sustained gunshot wounds late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.
Wagga Local Area Commander Superintendent Bob Noble confirmed police divers recovered a man's body in the murky water of the dam.
"I can also confirm a firearm was located with that deceased person in the dam," Superintendent Noble said at the scene.
"He's got some significant injuries, which are not inconsistent with others that we saw (on Tuesday).
"It's very raw, the body's only just come out of the water and we've got a long way to go before we nail that (how the man died) down."
Divers entered the water about 1.45pm on Wednesday and recovered the body about 45 minutes later.
From above, a set of tyre marks through a wheat crop led to the spot where a white ute was found abandoned next to the dam on Tuesday.
A line search through the crop was carried out early in the afternoon and, later, divers from Sydney arrived at the Boree Creek Road property.
The property was picture perfect from the air - flowering yellow canola and a lush green crop, tainted only by the incomprehensible nature of the deaths.
Clothes remained pegged to a Hills Hoist out the back and an empty swing and slippery slide were also visible.
Superintendent Noble said the deaths were being treated as a coronial investigation and a brief would be prepared for the coroner.
He wouldn't speculate on what unfolded in the lead-up to the tragedy.
"We have five deceased people. We believe they are all members of the same family," Superintendent Noble said.
"Information is coming to hand all the time (and) we need to look at that in its entirety rather than just piecemeal.
"Clearly something wasn't right, but we'll have to look at all the evidence put together, and (the) number of different perspectives that we'll be able to gain from speaking to people in this community, before we can start to comment with any authority on that."
Police have ruled out any other victims or persons of interest, at this stage.
