Forty-one-year-old Kim Hunt and children, Fletcher, 10, Mia, eight, and Phoebe six, were found shot dead at their Lockhart property on Tuesday afternoon before husband and father, 44-year-old Geoff Hunt's body was discovered by police divers in a dam on Wednesday.

The children were year four, two and kindergarten students at St Joseph's in Lockhart.

Parish priest Anthony Schipp held the church service for those struggling with the tragedy.

He recalled humbling anecdotes of the three children and their mother, despite only posted to Lockhart four months ago.

"I know of the family," he said.

"All the comments were very favourable and there was certainly nothing untoward.

"The town is rallying to the core.

"Everyone in town is gobsmacked."

Fr Schipp estimated the church was two thirds full, accommodating up to 200 people.

"It's indicative of the people looking for answers in this time of loss, grief and darkness, and we believe our Christain vision will help," he said.

"I'm being involved as much as I can.

"There's a lot of expertise on tap now, much more than the olden days when a priest was often the only one who could help."

St Joseph's is also offering counselling services and pastoral care, while a council meeting was held to discuss ongoing support networks.
