RACING against some of the best young riders in the world, Wagga youngster Brandon Demmery continues to flourish in the high octane world of superbikes.

Continuing to bring the motorsport world into the spotlight in Wagga, Demmery earned his nomination for the Wagga Sports Awards after winning the FXRRC championship at Goulburn in July.

As he looks to make a name from himself in superbikes, Demmery also rides a Kawasaki Ninja 300 in the Australasian Superbike Championships (ASC).

The reigning Australian champion in the 250cc division, Demmery has stepped up this season.

Setting track records at every circuit he raced on last year, the 16-year-old has set new marks at every track this year.

Currently ranked number one in the ASC, Demmery will take a slim margin into the fifth round of the championship next month.

Demmery also raced some of the world's best at the Malaysian World Superbikes grand prix earlier this year.

His incredible aptitude on the bike, coupled with his international riding achievements, has seen Demmery awarded the 2013/14 Wagga Sports Awards' Junior Sportsperson of the Year title.

Demmery bought a new suit for the occasion and father Mick said his son was looking to raise the profile of his chosen sport.

"It's hard to get any recognition in Wagga as it's not football or soccer or cricket, he's in a sport that is a minority, so to actually win and be recognised for his achievements is the thing he is most excited about," Mick said.

"Wagga is the City of Good Sports, so to gain that recognition for his achievements is pretty big for him."

Brandon told his father that winning last night's award was more important than winning last year's Australian championships.

With no track in Wagga, Brandon has to travel hours to circuits in Goulburn or Winton, but the hard work is paying off.

Looking to follow the footsteps of Australian racing greats Mick Doohan and Casey Stoner, Brandon is looking to establish himself overseas.

International doors continue to open for the talented 16-year-old, who has been invited to compete in the European Junior Cup in October.
