It looks like the man who defrauded the Riverina Water County Council will be sentenced next week. A tentative date has been set for the sentencing submissions for former RWCC general manager Gerald Pieper, who has pleaded guilty to six counts of misconduct in public office. The world is mourning Sir David Attenborough - but it's his brother, actor and director Richard, who has passed away. Richard passed away at the age of 90 on Sunday after battling a long illness. During his career - which spanned six decades - Attenborough appeared in movies such as Brighton Rock, The Great Escape and Jurassic Park, and directed Gandhi, which marked the highlight of his career - the movie won eight Oscars, including best film and best director. Vale Richard.
Doctors are confident a jockey who broke his neck in a fall at Wagga races on Friday will ride again. Canberra jockey Brendan Ward was airlifted to a Sydney hospital on Saturday after he and two other jockeys fell in the one race at the Murrumbidgee Turf Club. One of the others was unconscious for more than three minutes after the tumble. Full story here.
Southcity captain-coach Daniel Fitzhenry yesterday ended his Greenfield Oval drought in the most spectacular way possible - a 38-34 win over the Thunder.
