The Wagga duo say they have about two years before their wedding day and have issued an impassioned plea to the nation's leaders to follow countries like New Zealand and the United Kingdom to "get on board" with same-sex marriage.
"We can vote but we can't get married," Josh said.
"It's a bit strange."
Josh proposed to Luke atop the snow-capped apex of Mount Perisher on a ski trip. Josh revealed a pair of underpants that were inscribed with the words "Will you marry me?" to a stunned Luke.
Since then, Josh and Luke have received an outpouring of support on social media.
The couple will be following politics closely over the spring session of parliament as the Coalition party room decides weather to allow a conscience vote on gay marriage.
Member for Riverina Michael McCormack is opposed to same-sex marriage.
Luke said community attitudes towards same-sex marriage had changed in his lifetime.
"It's changed a great deal," he said.
Josh said action on same-sex marriage started with the community.
"We are the ones that pick the politicians," he said.
"Marriage is a commitment of love between two people.
"That's all it is."
