Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called to five fires on Wednesday night and at least another two under the cloak of darkness on Thursday.
One of the fires on Thursday night was lit in the garage of an elderly woman's Morgan Street home.
The woman was alerted by her barking dog, according to Turvey Park station officer Jason McDonnell.
"It could have easily become a nasty fire," Mr McDonnell said.
"The actions could have had dire consequences."
Wagga police duty officer Acting Inspector Darren Brand said two females, aged 15 and 13, had been questioned over a "spate of residential garbage bins being set alight" in the Turvey Park and Central Wagga areas this week.
Police received information about a possible suspect on Thursday night and acted swiftly to nab them within minutes of a fire being lit.
"The police dog responded and apprehended one of the female juveniles not far from where it (the fire) happened," Inspector Brand said.
