BARGAIN buy Inigo will be out to make it three in a row when he takes to Murrumbidgee Turf Club on Friday.
Wagga trainer Brad Witt picked up Inigo for just $1000 at the Inglis Select Racehorse Sale in Melbourne in May and already the five-year-old has returned $17,795 from just three starts.
Inigo was owned by Simon O'Donnell and Terry Henderson's OTI Racing and picked up just the one win from 19 starts, a maiden at Hamilton, when with Aaron Purcell after originally being with the Michael Moroney stable.
Inigo ran a promising fourth over 1000 metres for Witt first-up and then has notched up back-to-back victories over 1300 metres at Wagga.
Inigo will contest today's XXXX Gold Class Three Handicap (1400m) and Witt could not be happier with the horse ahead of his latest assignment.
"Everything's good with him," Witt said.
"He's had a couple of days freshen up and up to the 1400 metres will only help I'd imagine.
"He's looking a million dollars."
A host of first-time owners bought into Inigo and are having the time of their life with the profitable purchase.
Witt believes Inigo can make it three in a row but is worried about top-weight Landlocked, Heysen and last-start winner Jockarli.
Landlocked will carry 63.5 kilograms having his first start for Queanbeyan trainer Joe Cleary.
Landlocked raced in group one company for former trainer Anthony Cummings and resumes after 16 months off the scene.
Heysen is also a staying prospect resuming from a spell for Wayne Carroll, while Jockarli won last start at Sapphire Coast for Barbara Joseph and Paul Jones.
"I think he can (make it three in a row) but I'm a bit windy about those other three," Witt said.
"Landlocked has a lot of weight, but when you go back through his form it's very good and Joe Cleary's on fire at the moment and is a good man with a horse.
"Heysen trialled well and on his day is very good, while Barb's horse has been going well. My horse is thriving and has been winning and winning good so he can't do much more than what he's been doing."
Brendan Ward regains the ride on Inigo from barrier three.
Witt has just the one other runner at Wagga and it is Shaft Millennium in the Fillies & Mares Maiden Handicap (1300m).
"I've finally found a race for her," Witt said.
"She's finally drawn a gate and in fillies and mares class, it's an ideal race for her."
