GRIFFITH coach Brandon Mathews believes the development of a winning culture is the key to the Swans moving forward into the future.
The Swans will finish their season with a trip to Crossroads Oval on Saturday to take on the might of the minor premier, Collingullie-Ashmont-Kapooka.
It will be Guy Orton and Tom Webb's final game for the Swans.
Griffith is yet to sort out its coaching situation for next season but Mathews is happy with the progress made throughout his first season in charge.
"We're just that little bit of experience short," Mathews said.
"Apart from Wagga Tigers the first time, Mango and Ganmain, we've been in all of our games.
"We've improved, but further improvement comes with a winning culture.
"If we learn how to win the close ones than it's a whole different story.
"Some guys have been really good where there would be other blokes who would be disappointed with the year.
"Given where we've come from, they might only be small steps but we're headed in the right direction."
Griffith come into the game off the bye, but welcome back Richard Malone and Josh Hamilton for the final round fixture.
Glen Snaidero and Mathews will miss the game.
Mathews knows how tough the trip to Collingullie will be.
"They're on top for a reason," he said.
"We were pretty good against them last time but they're good players stood up again and it was a bit of a disaster from our point of view the last 15 minutes.
"We were more than competitive last time so I would like to think we could be again.
"We'll give it our best shot but it's not going to be won by five blokes standing out, it's going to take 22 blokes in a team effort."
Mathews said there would be a little bit extra motivation in trying to win for Orton and Webb, who will both move on after Saturday's game.
"We want to try and finish on a good note," he said.
