Film festival celebrates dark Czech surrealism

At the start of Dimensions of Dialogue, one of the best-known shorts by the brilliant Czech animator Jan Svankmajer, two figures meet face-to-face. One is made from fruit and vegetables as in an Arcimboldo painting, the other from knives, saucepans and other kitchenware.  Violent battle ensues, and soon individual identity disappears in a chaotic mass of objects.
