A WAGGA police officer has been charged with acting with intent to pervert the course of justice.
Constable Richard William Moffatt, 29, appeared in Wagga Local Court on Wednesday after being issued with a court attendance notice on July 9.
He is not required to be on bail and a plea has not yet been entered.
No details of the alleged offence were presented to the court beyond what is contained in a police charge sheet.
It is alleged that between July 10 and July 30 last year Moffatt submitted to the local court a written notice of pleading, and attached to that notice was a document titled: "A brief explanation of how and why the offence occurred".
It is alleged the intent of the document was to pervert the course of justice.
Moffatt was represented by solicitor John Weir, while the prosecution was represented by Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions solicitor Virginia Morgan.
Ms Morgan told the court a brief of evidence against Moffatt would be given to Mr Weir by October 1.
Mr Weir is then expected to reply to the brief in court on October 15.
Magistrate Michael Antrum excused Moffatt from attending court that day if legally represented.
Two police officers from the Wagga Local Area Command were in court for the case, with one taking notes.
A spokeswoman for the NSW Police Force's media unit said Moffat was currently on restricted duties.
She was not able to give further details of the alleged offence.
