Wagga City Council has just declared that Southern Cross Demolition has "confirmed the planned induced collapse of the Hampden Bridge today".
Explosions from the detonation charges are expected to be heard across the city centre as one of Wagga's most iconic structures collapses.
While no time has been set for the collapse, Fitzmaurice Street will be closed for a two-hour period as an exclusion zone is established.
"The public are reminded that access to the area during this period is not possible," a spokesman for Wagga City Council said.
"Representatives from Southern Cross Demolition, Wagga City Council and NSW Police will be patrolling the exclusion zone."
Detours from the exclusion zone will be clearly signposted, and through traffic on Wiradjuri Bridge will be stopped for a period of up to 15 minutes, council has advised.
