WITH a top three position secure, Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes coach Nathon Irvin wants consistency from the Goannas as they approach finals.
MCUE will be put to the test when it takes on fourth-placed Wagga Tigers at Robertson Oval on Saturday.
The Goannas are flying, with a 143-point win over Griffith last week, but will be out to get one back over Tigers from earlier in the year.
Tigers is the only team MCUE is yet to beat this year, after they went down by 20 points earlier in the year.
A win over Tigers before finals is not a must according to Irvin but he wants the Goannas producing their best football each week from now on in.
"I think for us it's about trying to play well consistently at this time of year," Irvin said.
"That's the most important thing for us.
"I think getting them to play more four-quarter games of footy.
"We're now more ruthless than we've been in the past.
"For us against Tigers, it's about playing our best footy and getting everything right, structures, preparation and then have a red hot crack.
"If we have a red hot crack then I think the result will go our way."
Irvin is one Riverina Football League coach that is a big fan of Tigers.
While they look destined to finish fourth, Irvin rates them a serious challenger for the premiership.
"I rate them well and truly on par with the best sides," he said.
"I think they're capable of winning it."
Irvin believes work rate will be the key to the contest.
"Tigers last time and Gullie, the sides that have beat us, it's been through work rate and effort," he said.
"Tigers definitely out-worked us last time and the boys will be keen to sort that out."
MCUE will get back Stace Creasy for the game against Tigers.
Harry Himmelberg and Jock Cornell will again be unavailable with representative commitments.
