WAGGA tennis prodigy Trey Murphy has proven he is one of the sport's rising stars after returning from a successful tour of the United States.
Murphy described the month-long tour as "life changing" after he claimed a tournament victory in the US last month.
Murphy made the trip to the United States with Albury's Margaret Court Tennis Academy under the watchful eye of renowned coach Phil Shanahan.
The trip involved sightseeing, training and tournaments where Murphy proved good enough to take out an event at Yuba City, California.
Murphy, 14, said the trip opened his eyes to what can be achieved through his tennis.
"It was life changing," Murphy said.
"In terms of seeing what's out there.
"It was good to see the different colleges and the standard of tennis over there was pretty high.
"Hopefully one day I can head over there to college."
Murphy won through the opening four rounds then took out the final ay Yuba City 6-3, 6-2.
He played another tournament in Sacramento where he was bundled out in the semi-final in a three-set three hour marathon.
The group also did training at the Phil Dent Tennis Academy in Los Angeles.
They also did some high altitude training.
The Kildare Catholic College student will now continue to work hard at his game in a bid to climb the ranks.
He travels with his parents Clive and Julie to Albury every Friday where he has one lesson in the afternoon and another on Saturday morning.
Murphy then travels back to Wagga to play pennants in the afternoon.
He hopes to now develop his game to a standard that he can one day head back to the United States on a college scholarship.
