One's man's trash is another man's treasure.
A free fashion exchange, coordinated by the Wagga Museum of the Riverina this week, will allow guests to renew their wardrobes by swapping five items of clothing or accessories.
Museum education and publicity program officer Michael Mitchell said the concept was born thanks to two seasoned op-shoppers, Rebecca Hillis and Kirrily Welsh, who have worked alongside the museum on previous projects.
The duo, who will host the exchange on Thursday, staged a tour of Wagga op-shops for seniors duringSeniors Week in March.
"We try to cater for everyone so this is a little different.
"It's a project that links in with the exhibitions," Mr Mitchell said.
The project is a first for the museum to compliment the two fashion-inspired exhibitions running concurrently.
DesignTech, launched at the start of the month, showcases selected works from the 2013 candidature of the state's HSC Design and Technology course, while Form Follows Function displays objects from the museum's collection over three months.
"It's just an opportunity to exchange fashion.
"It's a really good sustainable thing too.
"You don't have to throw out your old clothes," he said.
Guests are asked to bring five items of clothing or accessories from their wardrobe and exchange them with others' treasures using a currency of five buttons they'll be issued with upon entry.
Mr Mitchell said they'd accept any clothing cleaned and ironed, in addition to accessories ranging from shoes, belts, hats and scarves.
Any remaining clothes from the swap will be donated back to charities.
Mr Mitchell said the event's Facebook site had already generated considerable interest and the buzz was expected to grow by showtime.
The exchange will run for two hours from 6.30pm this Thursday at the council chambers.
