Students Molly Darrington and Luke Parker (Narrandera), Tessa Harbison (Holbrook)
and Brooke Peel (Lockhart) competed in track and field events on the two-week sporting tour.
The quartet were members of a squad of 50 athletes from NSW and Victoria who
spent the recent school holidays in Canada competing in Kelowna and Vancouver.
The athletes were accompanied by five coaches from Sydney, and 27 parents and caregivers, and were accommodated at the University of British Colombia.
The trip, which was organised by Sports Travel Australia, was for invited athletes aged between 13 and 18 years old.
Each athlete needed to achieve pre-determined results at respective regional and state school athletics championships to be eligible.
All athletes in the team performed extremely well against their Canadian competitors, achieving personal best times, and finishing in the top eight in many events.
As a bonus, some of the older touring athletes on the tour got the chance to compete against members of the Australian team in Canada for the World Junior Athletics Championships .
The national athletes were in Vancouver at the time before competing at a meet in Toronto.
Aside from competition on the track and field, the Riverina students, and their tour counterparts, enjoyed organised sightseeing opportunities, including visiting Whistler Mountain and Grouse Mountain and Disneyland in Anaheim.
Darrington, Parker, Harbison and Peel will continue to train in their respective events in preparation for the school regional championships next month.
