EASTERN Wanderers skipper Justin Curran wants his fledgling club to continue the form shown against competition power Yoogali SC for the remainder of the season.
The Wanderers lost 1-0 to the visiting Griffith District Amateur Football Association (GDAFA) team at Gissing Oval on Saturday.
While the result appears disappointing on paper, Yoogali SC has breezed through the season undefeated to date and beat the Wanderers 4-0 last time the two clubs met.
Curran wasn't disheartened by the game.
"Essentially we haven't been playing too bad for the last few weeks," he said.
"Just a bit of inconsistency and lapses in concentration have hurt us.
"But yesterday (Saturday) I thought we played a full game of football which was very pleasing.
"I thought we were a bit unlucky not to get any points out of it but we were able to play 90 minutes which I was really happy with.
"Hopefully we can continue to do that for the next few weeks and finish the season really strongly."
Curran paid credit to his entire defensive group following Saturday's narrow loss.
Goalkeeper Aaron Thomas, along with defenders Sam Mangelsdorf, Matt Barnes and Ben Angel all worked tirelessly to thwart a number of Yoogali SC attacks during the game.
At the other end of the ground, the Wanderers managed to create plenty of scoring opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net.
Their cause wasn't helped by the loss of midfielder Shaun Reddy who has moved away and won't play any further part in the campaign.
Curran felt a drawn result would have been a more accurate reflection of the game.
"I thought we were unlucky not to score," he said.
"We had quite a few good chance but couldn't quite put them away.
"Yoogali probably created a lot of chances as well so it was a pretty even game.
"Considering Yoogali SC is undefeated it's not a bad result for us."
The Wanderers are back on the road this week as they travel to take on Griffith City.
The Wagga-based club is out of finals contention with three rounds to play in the home-and-away season, but Curran wants to see improvement in his troops before the year is out.
