Doctor Teo is one of the medical experts leading research into brain cancer and its causes, specialising in removing brain tumours.
While not able to make it to Wagga in person, Dr Teo was able to connect with Charles Sturt University's (CSU) Wal Fife lecture theatre via Skype.
"Wherever he goes he creates connections, which lead to collaborations," Cure Brain Cancer Foundation CEO Catherine Stace said.
Those collaborations included the address in Wagga - with NSW Cancer Council working with the foundation.
"The interest and turnout shows that the community would like to see more events like this," western NSW Cancer Council regional manager Annemaree Binger said.
Associate dean of learning and teaching at CSU's science faculty Janelle Wheat said a presentation from the world renowned surgeon was inspiring and motivating, not only for students but for academics and researchers.
Dr Wheat said the presentation helped raise not only the profile of the university, but the drive for a cure to brain cancer.
"It helps the community know what research is going on," she said.
The opportunity to hear from Dr Teo was simple for third year nutrition student Ashwin Vijayaratnam.
"It's world-class research in the comfort of our own backyard."
