WAGGA will get its chance to share in the spoils of NSW's State of Origin victory, with the shield on display at Equex on Tuesday.

State of Origin winning coach Laurie Daley will bring the prized trophy to the city for the Mortimer Shield grand final.

Daley will present medals to the winners of the historic Riverina tournament, which continues to flourish.

Daley will be an even bigger draw card for day already experiencing a wave of support.

In the biggest year for the Mortimer Shield, 120 of the Riverina's best juniors will compete on the final day, following eight gala days and three semi-final days.

Mortimer Shield gala days were held in Wagga, Griffith, Leeton, Albury, Temora, Junee, Tumut and Young this year and a total on 169 teams from 81 schools competed.

Since the primary school competition was first introduced in 1988, support for the tournament has never been stronger.

After not entering any teams last year Albury hosted its own day, while there was such an interest in Temora that an extra day Junee had to be added.
