A CARELESS joyride around Harris Park is threatening to throw preparations for tomorrow's Group Nine fixture into turmoil.
Southcity players and officials arrived at the Wagga ground for training on Thursday night, only to find the playing surface riddled with car tracks.
An unknown culprit had earlier decided to take a drive across the field, despite it clearly being affected by rain from earlier in the week.
Bulls president Rodney Porter was quick to get on the front foot and remedy the problem as the club prepares to host Cootamundra at Harris Park tomorrow.
He is desperate to avoid moving the fixture to an alternative venue.
"I rang council first thing this (yesterday) morning and I'm meeting the guy up there, then we will make a decision," Porter said.
"It looks bad enough but it might be fine by Sunday.
"We can imagine what could have happened though.
"It looks like they have just driven around twice; the surface is pretty soft and it's made a couple of fairly deep indentations.
"It's a bit frustrating.
"We have gone to a lot of effort, and so has council, to ensure the ground is kept in good condition."
Southcity has so far been able to host all its home games at Harris Park this season, but the venue is notorious for being badly affected by rain.
It has previously caused football and cricket games to be moved at the 11th hour.
Wagga City Council's parks operations manager David Stapleton, however, is adamant Harris Park will be fit to host tomorrow's Group Nine action.
"They will definitely be able to play on it on Sunday," Stapleton said.
"There's a lot of superficial damage.
"The field has been pretty soft for a couple of weeks with the wet weather but it will be fine to play on."
Stapleton said a WWCC ground manager would mow the playing field yesterday afternoon but is confident no major repair work will be needed.
