IN A game of two halves, The Riverina Anglican College got its Creed Shield campaign off to a winning start getting over Mater Dei on Wednesday.
After both teams were goalless at half-time is was TRAC that came out firing, scoring three second half goals to win 3-0.
TRAC coach Colin Wright gave his team a "frank assessment" of the performance during the half-time speech, and it got the desired affect.
"It was a good second half, but its good to get the win after a disappointing first half," Wright said.
"They were a different team in the second half, coming out and showing a bit more application and endeavour."
Matthew Cain got the scoring started, before TRAC were the beneficiary of a own goal as Mater Dei defence couldn't contain a corner kick.
Kaylem Fitzpatrick then put the game out of Mater Dei's reach, with arguably the best of the three goals, finishing a lovely cross by Nic Donato with a powerful header.
Morgan Bowman was the calming influence across defence for TRAC while Youseff Abouelnasr and Riley McMullen also had strong games.
Sam Kirk and Jordan Heise were the best for Mater Dei, both tenacious in defence for the whole game.
Taking down the reigning champions is a great way to start the competition, but Wright is looking to work out a few problems on the training pitch.
"It's a good start to the campaign and we will have a training run Friday to work on a few deficiencies," Wright said.
"I thought we let ourselves down moving forward on occasions with errant passing, but there was some good signs there."
In a busy period for the year 12 students, Wright is looking for a number of the younger members of the team to stand up.
TRAC take on Wagga High in the second round of pool games on Monday.
Wagga High came away with a 3-0 win over Kildare on Wednesday with Sam Jenkins scoring a brilliant goal.
Jenkins was named the best in a strong team performance, with Wagga High looking like they've had plenty of time together.
After Wagga High dominated the first stanza, the second half was a closer affair with Kildare never giving up.
Kooringal High School came through a thriller against Mount Austin High, recording a 1-0 victory.
