Fifty budding singers from across the region are taking part in the six-day Riverina Choral Camp this week - the chance to work on a variety of repertoire.

From Paul Simon's Bridge over Troubled Water, to Lennon and McCartney's Eleanor Rigby and the African Song of welcome, Funga Alafia, the students have delved into a vast array of music.

Co-ordinator Kerry Barker said the camp provided the perfect environment for students from smaller schools to take their music to the next level.

"It's the only opportunity to work as a choral ensemble," Ms Barker said.

"They're dealing with the best of the best ... what they're learning is of high standard."

Two-thirds of participants this year are secondary students - a record number.

Tamara Taylor, from Cootamundra High School, is known as one of the camp's "frequent flyers" - she has been every year since it began.

The opportunities, the singing and the friendships forged are what keeps the year 12 student coming back.

"I have Kerry (Barker), to thank for it; without her I wouldn't be here," Tamara said.

Another camp regular, Grant Hardwick, clearly remembers his first choral camp encounter in 2010.

Fast forward a few years and nothing has changed.

Despite being significantly outnumbered by girls this time around, the year 10 Tumut High School student said gender didn't matter.

"When I was young, it was always the guys that were bringing me back," Grant said.

"The people you meet here are such special people ... you make friends for life."

Year 11 student Madeline Headon was thrilled to be able to broaden her skills in a larger setting than the music room at Hay War Memorial High School.

Madeline, who first attended the camp in 2012, said she enjoyed being around others who share her passion.

"To come back and see my friends is really good," she said.

"It's a great experience and a lot of fun."

During the camp, students are selected for the Riverina choir, to perform at a state level, along with the Schools Spectacular combined choir.

Students will perform at Forest Hill, North Wagga and Mount Austin public schools today, ahead of a farewell concert at the camp tomorrow.
