ONE of Wagga's oldest cricket clubs is on the hunt for a coach to lead it during the 125th anniversary season.
Lake Albert has put the call out for a senior coach as experienced cricketer Bruce Tom steps down after just one season in charge.
Tom led the club on its return to finals earlier this year as the Bulls finished fourth and were subsequently bundled out of the running by St Michaels.
Lake Albert had previously spent two seasons out of finals.
Club president Jason Samuelson explained it was personal family reasons which ultimately forced Tom to step down from the role.
"Originally we thought we would have Bruce as coach for several years," Samuelson said.
"But we understand he couldn't devote the necessary time to coaching this season."
"Family comes first, we understand that, and Bruce has told us he will stay around the club."
Bruce's son, teenage talent Matt Tom, has committed to playing for Lake Albert again during the 2014-15 season following his breakout year in first grade.
The Bulls have a number of experienced cricketers in-house but Samuelson says the club will put the call out to other candidates as the hunt for a coach heats up.
He is confident Lake Albert has a solid playing list to work with.
Veteran bowler Scott Billington and gun all-rounder Kurt Robertson have already committed to the club.
Spinning all-rounder Todd Francis, however, has moved away from Wagga and won't return to play.
"We have three or four of those older, experienced guys and then we have a lot of younger guys coming through," Samuelson said.
"We have a strong junior base...we have a lot of players aged between 16 and 21 and we really want someone who is going to develop them.
"This is a good opportunity for someone who wants to be a cricket coach to get involved with the club at an exciting time.
"We need someone who is going to establish a good culture with our younger players."
Lake Albert has begun advertising for a coach and will close the applications on August 4.
The Bulls will then aim to appoint the successful applicant at their August meeting.
The draw for the 2014-15 Wagga Cricket Association season is yet to be released, but should also be decided upon at the committee's August meeting.
