Any move to lower the legal blood alcohol limit to .02 should be thwarted immediately.
We are already living in a "nanny" state and a decision to cut the legal alcohol driving limit would be bordering on the ridiculous.
Surely we haven't reached a stage where a person can't have a drink or two and then drive home responsibly.
Again it's the dreaded academics behind this latest ploy and naturally enough they're backed by The Greens and the "do-gooders" of this world.
It wasn't that long ago a Saturday afternoon for many Australian men consisted of a beer, a punt and a smoke.
What's left?
Perhaps the Australian psyche should now be changed to a glass of cordial, an ice-cream and a game of Monopoly.
Honestly enough is enough and you are left wondering just where this is all going to end?
The world can't be wrapped up in cottonwool and you certainly can't legislate for commonsense.
Now no-one wants to see carnage on our roads but for the time being at least there is no need to change the current law.
Official figures show crashes are down, fatalities are being reduced, cars are safer and our roads are slowly getting better.
The problem with all these studies and surveys is that they give mileage to the vocal minority and before long the vast majority of people are hoodwinked into believing it's a good idea.
Well actually it's not.
Fools will always be fools and sensible people will always do the right thing.
So why should the vast majority of us who drink responsibly, and for now drive home under the legal limit, be punished for the actions of a few?
It makes no sense whatsoever.
Any legislation designed to lower a drivers legal blood alcohol limit to .02 should be dumped into the nearest garbage bin forthwith.
