Colloquially known as the "Police Logies" among some in the force, the Police Officer of the Year awards will acknowledge individual officers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in seven distinct categories.
Sunrise Rotary Club member Peter Gissing, one of the driving forces behind the initiative, said the awards would draw attention to many of the good deeds performed on a daily basis by police in the city.
"(The awards) in a general sense, highlight the excellent work in the community that often goes unsung," he said.
"It's not just the uniformed (officers) but right across the board."
Even if you don't know the name of the officer you wish to nominate, that's no barrier to entering them into the awards.
"Even if people don't know the name of the officer, don't let that discourage them," Mr Gissing said.
"If they can give some details in the reasons why they're recommending that officer, it may be possible for the police to identify who that officer was."
The winners of the awards will be announced at a gala dinner at the Wagga RSL on August 30.
Tickets for the dinner are available for $65 from Don Tuckwell Audio or the 2WG/Star FM booking office.
Details on the awards and where entry forms can be dropped off can be found at www.waggapoliceawards.org.au.
