RIVERINA confirmed its reputation as a harness racing stronghold with two pacers enjoying group one success at Menangle yesterday.
Riverina glamour girl Frith claimed her sixth group one when she claimed the $100,000 NSW Breeders Challenge 4YO Mares Final (2400m) for trainer-driver Bruce Harpley and owners Bernie and Dianne Kelly.
The day only got better for Riverina connections when Wagga-owned Lettucerockthem captured the $125,000 NSW Breeders Challenge 3YO Colts & Geldings Final (2400m) for breeder-owner Paul Kahlefeldt.
Both pacers led all the way in winning.
Frith ($1.30) justified her short price with a seven-metre victory in a mile rate of 1:57.7.
Lettucerockthem ($3.80) produced one of the quickest last half recorded at Menangle when he came home in 54.1 seconds for the final 800 metres to win in a mile rate of 1:59.3 for trainer Belinda McCarthy and driver Luke McCarthy.
It was Lettucerockthem's third group one win. He claimed the 2YO colts and geldings final of the same series last year.
The win took Frith's career earnings to $700,000.
Lettucerockthem has now amassed $450,000.
It was a big day for Kahlefeldt, who also enjoyed success in the group three NSW Rising Stars Final (1609m) with Zenable ($14.20).
Zenable is trained by former Ganmain woman KerryAnn Turner and was driven to victory by Mitch Turnbull.
Zenable smashed the 4YO mares Australian record winning in a mile rate of 1:51.2.
Kahlefeldt also bred the winner of the NSW Breeders Challenge 2YO Fillies Final (1609m), Bamako Mali ($3.40), a daughter of African Dancer.
