In March last year, a man consumed 16 jager bombs - a concotion of a shot of the spirit Jagermeister and the energy drink Red Bull - at the Globe Hotel in Cootamundra in less than two minutes in a flagrant breach of responsible service of alcohol guidelines.
Paramedics had to be called after the man consumed the drinks as he was violently ill shortly after.
Acting Sergeant Mick Wood from Cootamundra police said the incident would serve as a "wake-up call" to the town's licenced establishments.
"When you hear of something like this or attend something like this, you're always disappointed to hear something like this would happen in a small country town," he said.
Sanctions have now been laid over the incident, with the Globe Hotel fined $1100, given a strike under NSW's "three-strike" policy and forced to hire a supervisor to oversee drink restrictions.
Under the "three-strike" policy, hotels can be forced to close should they reach three strikes.
The barmaid who served the drinks has been sacked by the pub and the Globe Hotel is now banned from serving "bomb" drinks.
Cootamundra Liquor Accord chairman Brad Shields declined to comment on the incident when contacted by the Advertiser.
