The daughter of Yankee Spider took 2½ seconds off Arizona Blue's trotters track record set in the inaugural all trotters meeting in 2011.

The four-year-old mare posted a new best mile rate of 2:01.8 after working to the front for Avenel trainer-driver David Aiken.

Spidergirl was made to work earlier after Jingling Silver blistered off the mobile to find the lead before Blake Fitzpatrick posted her three wide temporarily when he shifted Pretty Sunday off the peg line on his way to finding the lead.

Spidergirl continued to move forward before eventually finding the front in a quick lead time of 44.3 seconds.

Aiken was worried that with the fast early tempo would leave Spidergirl wanting at the finish, but she proved to tough for her rivals defeating Waikare Patricia by three metres.

"She went really good after having to do a little bit more work earlier that what I thought she would have," Aiken said.

"I thought she might have been a bit of a sitting duck for someone but she went really good.

"Waikare Patricia and Shes An Image can sprint home really quick but she really stuck to her guns."

Originally based in NSW, Aiken has been a regular visitor to Coolamon's meeting, entering horses in each year although he couldn't make it to last year's day after suffering transportation issues.

Aiken was the caretaker trainer when Arizona Blue won the La Coocaracha and was pleased to win Coolamon's feature in his own right.

"I looked after Arizona Blue as she was in Melbourne when she won the first one and I brought her up for the race," Aiken said.

"I've been trying to win one ever since so its good to win one outright."

A stable favourite of Aiken's, Spidergirl has now won 13 of her 23 starts with a further six placings.

The experienced horseman has a big opinion of the mare who has now two races in open aged company.

"She has been a good two-year-old and steps up every time but she has to race the big boys now," Aiken said.

"The test will be in the next 12 months but she's tough and very good."
