RIVERINA residents may be able to afford to splash their cash, with Wagga's water the cheapest in the state for similar areas.
Released earlier this month, the 2012-13 NSW Water Supply and Sewerage Performance Monitoring Report compares the state's 105 water utilities listing their quality and cost.
Wagga residents can be assured by the results which recorded a 100 per cent chemical and e-coli compliance.
The water utility service received three complaints, significantly lower than the worst offenders - Bathurst and Gosford.
Riverina Water County Council (RWCC) general manager Graeme Haley said residents should be pleased with the results.
"We have very high quality water," Mr Haley said.
Discussing the future, Mr Haley said the council had awarded a contract to Hunter Water Australia to undertake an environmental assessment.
Wagga mayor Rod Kendall congratulated Riverina Water County Council on its water management.
"They do a very good job, they are extremely reliable and there are few service interruptions," Councillor Kendall said.
"The cost of water in Wagga has historically been very low."
Cr Kendall said residents should expect a 10 per cent rise in water costs in the next two years, as money is invested in building services to ensure clean water can continue to be delivered.
"We will see some increases as the $4 million project is undertaken."
Mr Kendall said construction was expected to start in 2015 and take two years.
Council will further discuss the report next week.
