Gun full forward Marc Geppert and running defender Ben Absolum lead the list of outs for the Hawks.
The pair are unavailable due to Absolum's wedding, and they are joined by Blake Aichinger, Nick Baggio and the injured Zac MacDonald on the outgoing list.
Daniel Davey remains on the sideline with an injured ankle, while Alex McKenzie and Brock Argus will return through reserve grade after missing round one.
Rather than take the losses as a negative, first-year EWK coach Gavin McMahon is excited by the opportunity it provides.
He is looking forward to giving a handful of other players the opportunity to step up.
"Nothing buoys a side more than seeing blokes who have worked the hardest during pre-season get a game early in the year," McMahon said.
"We've had 40 or 45 guys training since January and this is an opportunity to reward some of them for their efforts.
"It gives us a chance to test our depth as well.
"We've got a lot of boys coming back next week but in saying that, if the players this week play well enough they will be keeping their spot."
EWK has endured an interesting preparation for tomorrow's game against the Blues.

The Hawks thumped a weak CSU outfit by 174 points in round one and then took a week off with the Easter general bye.
Coleambally, however, went down in a hard-fought contest to Marrar at home.
McMahon says tomorrow will be as much about getting a look at his own team as the opposition.
"We are still trying to learn about ourselves, let alone the other teams," McMahon said.
"We can't wait to get tested, and have our depth tested against Coleambally.
"We finally get to see if the things we have been doing at training work during a game."
It will be an exciting day for EWK as a club as it welcomes back the under 17 team following a year in recess.
The Hawks have also put plenty of work into the Gumly Oval amenities during the off-season and will unveil the updated sheds, umpire rooms and netball court lights.
