The body of Mr Deng, 51, was found at the back of Noodle Paradise on Baylis Street on the morning of September 13, 2006, with several fatal stab wounds in his back.
Police broke into the shop after staff arriving for work found the doors locked and unable to raise anybody inside.
It is believed Mr Deng could have laid dead on the floor for up to 30 hours.
Malaysian authorities arrested a 28-year-old Malaysian man early last month in connection with the murder and he is currently before the courts facing an extradition request by the Australian government on behalf of NSW police.
The 28-year-old man had been an immediate suspect in the aftermath of the killing, according to the Wagga police officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Sergeant Dale Holmes.
He is also being extradited to face charges relating to robbery-related offences.
Police have yet to release the name of the suspect, details of his arrest or the location of where he is currently being held by Malaysian authorities.
