It was just one example of "bad driver behaviour" on the first day of a statewide Easter long weekend traffic blitz, according to police.
The 22-year-old P-plate driver was observed by police heading east on Chaston Street about 2.20am.
Police say he was allegedly detected at 123km/h in a 50km/h zone.
Officers stopped the man and issued him with a traffic infringement notice for speeding.
His licence was also suspended.
Police have appealed to motorists to slow down and take care on the road this weekend as 'Operation Tortoise' continues.
The road safety campaign began on Thursday and will target speeding, seatbelt and helmet offences until midnight on Monday.
