Parishioners packed St Michaels Cathedral to witness Stations of the Cross, led by Father Rick Micallef and cross bearer Gerard Letchford.
The Stations of the Cross are a sign of Catholic devotion, as Christ's steps from his trail to his burial are followed. Bishop Gerard Hanna preached love and life as he gave the Easter Vigil.
"It is first of all the truth of God; in fact the God who acts to vindicate, to fulfil his creative purpose that life not death, love not evil, should have the last word," Bishop Hanna said.
Bishop Hanna told the congregation that living a genuinely new life is not about immediate perfection, but about striving to be better.
"It does mean that, when we sin, we can always find forgiving love in Him who rose from the dead," Bishop Hanna said.
"We can walk out of darkness into the light."
Reflecting on the true meaning of Easter, Bishop Hanna continuously referred back to hope.
"It is the hope of Easter; hope that there is a life bigger than death, a love greater than evil," he said.
"Today however, we celebrate the culture of life which has its roots in the great event of Easter."
