WAGGA Tigers has received a timely boost just days out from its season opener with the signing of experienced forward Jamie Wolf.
An opening round bye sees Tigers kick off its season with the Anzac Day showdown against Collingullie-Ashmont-Kapooka and they will now go in with some extra firepower up forward.
Wolf arrives at Tigers from Tallangatta League club Kiewa-Sandy Creek and is a small forward with an ability to hit the scoreboard.
Wolf has booted 125 goals over the past three seasons for Kiewa-Sandy Creek, including 38 goals last year.
He will compliment a fresh Tigers forward line and join the likes of James Hodges, Xavier Brennan and Josh Parmenter in an all new attack.
Wagga Tigers coach Matt Rava is happy to welcome another experienced footballer into the team.
"He's a pretty good footballer," Rava said yesterday.
"He'll play up forward as a small forward and just to have that experience there to help out the young blokes will be really good.
"It gives the rest of the team a bit of confidence too."
Wolf has been training with Tigers through the pre-season due to work commitments and only accepted a contract here recently that will see him in Wagga full-time.
He even played in Tigers' pre-season trial against Corowa-Rutherglen before playing the opening two rounds with Kiewa-Sandy Creek.
"He ended up being offered a job contact here," Rava explained.
"It's a work thing which is the main reason, lucky enough for us."
Wolf has returned tallys of 38, 37, 50 and 21 goals over the past four seasons.
It is a nice bonus for Tigers, who have had to wait an extra fortnight to start their season with the opening round club bye followed by the Easter weekend.
Tigers will meet a CAK team looking to bounce back from a 41-point defeat to Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes.
Apart from Shaun Flanigan who is out for the first half of the season with a shoulder injury, Tigers will be very close to full-strength.
"We should have a pretty competitive team on the track," Rava said.
Tigers won the first Anzac Day game between the two clubs last year when it pulled off a nine-point upset over the Demons.
