These school holidays, Caroline, 10, will see a good coach in her mother Genevieve, who herself played the role more than 30 years ago, acting as the spoilt princess who reluctantly befriends a frog, who then transforms into a dashing prince.
Staged at the Basement Theatre, the production will run just eight shows including morning and matinee performances between today and April 24, with tickets priced at just $7 for adults and children.
"It was wonderful to attend rehearsals of the play and realise I still remember every word of the production I actually feel quite emotional about seeing Caroline perform in the same role," Mrs Smith said.
Yesterday, daughter Caroline said knowing her mother had played the same role gave her a special affinity with the character.
"We even tried to find the same dress that Mum wore but we had to settle for one that is very similar because we couldn't find it in the theatre's wardrobe," Caroline said.
Known for its high-quality amateur productions, the Children's Theatre Workshop has also held productions of Aladdin and The Fantastic Mr Fox, which both ran last year.
The production is being directed by Louise Blackett, with music by Nicole Ingram.
