TOLLAND veteran Steven Wait's 60th minute strike proved to be the difference as with the Wolves edged Henwood Park 1-0 at Gissing Oval yesterday.
Despite controlling the match Tolland couldn't put its dominance on the score board with a number of opportunities either saved by goalkeeper Adrian Montagner or went just wide of the post.
The ball was planted in the Wolves' half for the majority of the match, but apart from rebounded goal from Wait the final finishing touches remained elusive.
Young talent Nick Tsiperos played a crucial part in the goal crossing the ball in from Tolland's right hand side where he found Henri Gardner in the box but his shot was blocked by Montagner before Wait picked up the crumbs.
Coach Chris Ayton praised the performance of the 15-year-old Tsiperous who was really stood up since stepping into first grade.
Despite scoring only the one goal Ayton is pleased with how his team were able to control the ball and dominate possession.
"It was a good all round performance though we were slow to get going with too many long balls in the first half but pulled it together in the second and really started to knock it around," Ayton said.
"We had lots of opportunities and probably had six or seven opportunities that we should have put away but all in all I'm happy with the second half and if the boys keep playing like that they will be hard to beat."
On the end of another loss Henwood Park captain-coach Ben Schmid was still impressed with how his team stepped up to tackle Tolland after going down to Lake Albert 2-1 last week.
The 20-year-old is still looking for his team to play out the entire match after losing contact with the experience Wolves outfit at vital stages.
"We obviously didn't get the result but its a massive improvement on last week and we played some nice patches of football," Schmid said.
"We dropped off with 15 minutes to go but there are definitely a lot of positives even though the result didn't go our way."
Tolland will take on South Wagga and Wagga United when the competition resumes from the Easter break and Ayton believes the match up against the Crows will show just where his team are at.
Henwood Park will have a tough task in their next match against Wagga United who were 7-3 winners over Lake Albert yesterday.
Ryan McKenzie scored a hat trick in the rematch of last year's grand final, scoring the opener in the 30th minute.
The Crows lead 3-0 at half time and McKenzie scored his second just after the break when one-on-one with Sharks goalkeeper Damien Loro who was injured trying to stop the goal and couldn't play on.
Leigh Ryan got one back for Lake Albert, but the Crows quickly took the score to 6-1 as Jordan Heise completed his double in the 75th minute.
In a frentic end to the match three goals were scored in the last four minutes with Michael Babic and Alex Lonergan converting for Lake Albert while Lincoln Weir adding another to the Crows scoreline.
