FORMER Ag College coach Richard Turnbull has been given the task to lead SIRU's representative team to its fourth consecutive victory in the Brumbies Provincial Tournament over the June long weekend.
Only Turnbull and last year's co-coach Mick Small nominated for the role with the board appointing Turnbull on Monday night.
After stepping away from regular coaching this season Turnbull said he was looking forward to the opportunity to coach the representative team.
"It should be quite exciting," Turnbull said.
"They've done well over the years which is good, but its always the challenge to try and maintain that.
"There is no certainty that that is going to happen but just being involved is quite nice."
Former Ag College player Pete Armstrong has already been brought as an assistant coach and will work with the back line with further support staff to to be added with more consultant with the board in the coming weeks.
Turnbull has devised a plan with Armstrong which will enable them to see all of the teams play as they look to settle on a squad for the tournament.
"Pete is coming back home permanently which is good and what would be nice is to provide some continuity in the medium and longer term and I think Pete has a lot of experience and will offer quite a lot to the back line," Turnbull said.
"Pete is going to move around, look at all the teams playing and assist us with identifying talent, talk to players, especially those that are talented as it gives them an opportunity to move up the ladder to the next level."
Clubs will be asked to nominate players for the representative squad next month with the squad for the tournament in Jindabyne expected to be announced on May 26 following the completion of round seven matches.
Turnbull expects to have the squad for two training runs before the tournament against the South Coast and Monaro.
