The Wagga Takes Two event raised $5000 for the Cancer Council, almost doubling the $3000 projected to be raised.
Joe Williams, a Wagga Takes Two celebrity, and owner of JWB Gym, has nominated the Cancer Council's Relay For Life as his charity and will be its ambassador at the event.
Wagga Takes Two brings together well-known Wagga identities for three nights of caberet style entertainment.
Mr Williams will partner with singer Shelly McCormack.
He said the better than expected money raised was due to the uniqueness of the fund-raiser, with the 24-hour treadmill marathon even attracting the attention of bystanders who were not themselves running.
"I tried to find a fund-raiser that incorporated my lifestyle - this was thinking outside the box a bit," Mr Williams said.
"The idea was to only have one treadmill going the entire time, but we had extra people in there giving it a go too.
"We had a hell of a lot of people coming in and supporting us. It was tremendous support from the community."
Mr Williams ran for four hours in total over the 24-hour period, but he said other participants who ran for smaller amounts made a worthy contribution.
"It was all about raising money," he said.
"It was about the people at the Cancer Council and helping out people less fortunate than ourselves."
Wagga Takes Two, a ticketed event, is on from April 24 to 26 at the Kildare Catholic College Hall.
