The performance street car event promises to be more family-friendly after disappearing from Wagga for more than a decade due to a lack of interest.
The show is billed as a weekend for the car enthusiast, allowing spectators to display their car or admire the cars on display.
Paul Beck took over the event in 2008 and is adamant in making it appeal to a wider variety of people.
"People lost interest in the Street Machine Nationals," he said.
"We want to put a different spin on it where it's more focused on creating a family atmosphere so everyone can come here with plenty to see and do.
"We've made it affordable for the whole family."
Next year, the event will be strictly alcohol-free and without the glorified burnout competition.
Mr Beck said Wagga City Council is pleased to see the event return to the city.
"The Nats will definitely be good for Wagga," he said.
"We're looking at a long-term plan for Wagga and there is no reason why we can't sign on for 10 years.
"The town being halfway between Sydney and Melbourne will attract a lot of interest."
Mr Beck is expecting 200 to 300 cars to be on show.
"Modified cars are a way of everyone expressing their individuality," he said.
"You can buy a brand new Commodore and pull up at the traffic lights next to exactly the same one.
"With this, everyone has their own taste and their own ideas."
Mr Beck said the event will raise money for youth charity Angels for the Forgotten.
"We want to do something for the local community and this is a way of giving back," he said.
The Street Machine Nationals auto show will be held at the Wagga Showgrounds on the second weekend of August.
