As has been shown time and time again, necessity is the mother of invention, so it was fantastic to see a new group kick off in Wagga this week aimed at encouraging and fostering such innovation.
Talking Tech is an idea promoted by a couple of successful Wagga entrepreneurs who have proven that a good idea can be developed into a meaningful business opportunity.
Simone Eyles, the co-founder of 365cups, has been a real driving force in the creation of this networking group.
Her phone app, now used widely across Australia, has the potential to be replicated around the world.
And not unlike some of the greatest inventions in history, it was a simple idea that only needed a direction and inspiration.
While entrepreneurs in the past have been forced to move to larger centres or hand their dream to large companies to see it progress to development phase, modern communications and technology means that it doesn't matter where you are or to some degree, what resources you have almost anything is possible.
Ideas such as 365cups and Tolsa Harrison's PopUpGigs are just two examples of how regionally based people can come up with a fantastic idea, develop it and then market it to the world.
The explosion of social media has also helped in this aspect, where start-up operations are able to get their word out to a very large audience at a minimal cost.
While this doesn't necessarily suit all products and services, for those dealing in things such as phone and tablet apps, social media is a direct link to an audience and therefore sales.
Australians have shown a wonderful ability to identify a problem and find a solution, and it may well be that the new Talking Tech group will provide the platform for many more smart solutions.
In doing so they may well put Wagga on the international map as a place where great ideas are fostered, they are encouraged in a supportive and creative environment.
