The nephew of ex-world champion Troy Dunn, Roy built a formidable rodeo career before stepping away from the sport several years ago.
The comeback appearance of the north Queensland-based star has given the Rosewood rodeo a tremendous boost in stature, according to rodeo organiser and bronc rider Tim Hammond.
"Roy is a very high profile rider," Hammond said.
"This is the first time we've had riders coming down form Queensland to compete.
"It's certainly a big step for the rodeo."
Hammond, who will contest the saddle bronc and bareback sections on Saturday, is adamant the Rosewood rodeo has grown in stature in its short and breathtaking history.
"We've got record entries … it's getting bigger every year," Hammond said.
"It's a charity event and we'd like to encourage as many people to get along to support it."
On a national level, the Rosewood rodeo will support the Breast Cancer Foundation, while Rosewood youngster Myra Murfett is another the recipient.
"The Murfett family are pillars of the community and Myra has been regularly to the children's hospital in Melbourne," Hammond said.
"Obviously the local community will want to support the family."
Amid Tooma rodeo ace Brad Pierce may hit the arena at Rosewood on Saturday, Tumbarumba rider Ben Hall and Matthew Sheather are confirmed to compete
As much as rodeo events are scheduled only for Saturday, there will be team penning events over the weekend.
Admission to the Rosewood rodeo is $10, with the action set to start on Saturday.
Coming hot on the heels of last weekend's Gundagai rodeo, the Rosewood event is expected to pull in a crowd of at least 2000.
Cowboys of the calibre of Clayton Russell, Brett Robson and Troy Cross stirred the emotions of spectators at the Gundagai rodeo and the Rosewood attraction will also be a huge drawcard.
