It’s a move which would put an end to discussion on a project which mayor Rod Kendall last week conceded had been placed in “significant doubt”.
A councillor’s report tabled by Paul Funnell has suggested council put in place a sunset clause to withdraw the contract for the proposed site on the corner of Copland Street and Kooringal Road to ACA Capital Investments.
It also states all negotiations should be ceased as previously resolved by council in July.
Cr Funnell cited numerous reasons to end negotiations, including the ongoing lack of communication from ACA and growing concern from the community over the lack of transparency as to the contents of the proposed centre.
“I believe council has given the proponents of this project ample opportunity to present their case ... still there has been nothing forthcoming,” Cr Funnell said in the report.
“The current situation is holding the city to ransom by not being able to make decisions in regard to what direction and use we as a community would like to see.
“It is time to move on from this project in regard to the current situation we find ourselves in.”
The expiration date to enact the clause is listed as 4pm on October 25.
