MARRAR has put its hand up as an early Farrer League off-season mover after announcing its second signing in the space of a week.
The Bombers yesterday revealed former clubman Shane Macintosh as the latest recruit, joining past coach Jarrod Gornall on the list of players returning to Langtry Oval.
Macintosh spent five years at Marrar before heading to Upper Murray League club Tumbarumba where he won a premiership as assistant coach in 2012, then again as head coach just a fortnight ago.
He said a return to the Bombers was always on the cards.
“I was always going to come back, it was just a matter of when, and now seemed like a good time to return,” Macintosh explained.
“I’d achieved everything I possibly could at Tumba but it was a tough decision to leave.
“My first year at Tumba as assistant coach I learnt a lot, then these last 12 months as coach have been unbelievable.
“Now I’m looking forward to getting back to Marrar and bringing that experience back with me.
“I really like the direction the club is heading in and I wanted to be a part of that.”
Macintosh has signed on as co-assistant coach of Marrar, alongside Brad Turner and under head coach Clint Taylor.
Now 28, he admitted the thought of finishing his career with a number of mates at Langtry Oval was too good to resist.
Macintosh took a lot of Wagga players with him to Tumbarumba this year, including younger brother Chase and a handful of close mates.
He says he will not be trying to lure any of them back to Marrar, but would not be surprised if some decide to join him at the Bombers.
“I have a great relationship with Tumba and I’m making sure I stay well clear of that out of respect for the club,” Macintosh said.
Macintosh is a goal kicking small forward who runs through the midfield and will be a handy addition to Marrar’s line-up.
Club recruiting manager Isaac Hill was thrilled to get him on board.
“He’s gone away and got a lot of experience coaching at Tumba, and we think he will be a good fit for the club,” Hill said.
“Shane is an experienced footballer and you can’t buy experience.”
Marrar has now added two quality footballers to its list without losing a player.
Hill said the club is not done recruiting, and hinted at adding some more firepower to the forward line before next season.
