While punters may have missed out on that perfect bet, no one missed out on the perfect weather that turned out just in time to ensure the day wasn't washed out.
The race meet, second only to the Wagga Gold Cup, drew a crowd of thousands, with the Aggies committee pleased to sell more tickets than initially expected.
"The day went really, really well, especially because the weather was so beautiful," committee president Eliza Star said.
"I think that brought out an extra few people who weren't planning to come out after a not-so-promising week."
The committee was also pleased the day went off without a hiccup, with police reporting no major incidents.
Fashions on the Field was a highlight for many, especially for dozens of young women who turned up to put their best foot forward in four heats.
It was Bonnie Skinner who came out on top with an elegant cream and black ensemble the judges deemed perfect from head to toe.
Jaimi Brown and Albert Gorman won Best Dressed Couple with their complementary red and grey outfits, while Ben Signor claimed Best Dressed Man and Elise Kelly the Best Millinery.
All the proceeds from the day go to Wagga Ag College Old Boy Peter Worsley who became a quadriplegic when he was injured in a rugby union game in 1987.
The committee and students from Charles Sturt University, who typically make up 30 per cent of the race day ticket holders, attended a recovery session yesterday at the Black Swan in North Wagga before the final fund-raising count today.
