Angus Taylor has been declared the new Member for Hume, taking on the role from outgoing member Alby Schultz, who retired after 25 years in politics.
As of 9.30pm Mr Taylor had 53.8 per cent of votes.
The Liberal votes far surpassed that of Labor, with ALP candidate Michael Pilbrow receiving just 26.7 per cent.
Mr Pilbrow went into the tally feeling relaxed and comfortable.
"Whatever happens, happens. I think I've done enough in the campaign," he said.
Today he visited more than 10 voting centres to reach as many voters as possible.
Despite being defeated he said he was glad there was at least one win in the family.
"My son won his premiership today with the Under 16's Yass Football Club," Mr Pilbrow said.
"So it's nice to be able to celebrate that."
