MARRAR’S homecoming king Clint Taylor has been crowned the Farrer League’s best and fairest player for 2013.
Taylor was tonight awarded the Gerald Clear Medal after polling a total of 22 votes, and accepted his spoils to a roaring ovation from a packed room at the Rules Club.
Taylor was not awarded a vote in the first three rounds of the season but went on to receive six best-on-grounds, the majority coming from seven games in the second half of the season.
The Rock-Yerong Creek gun Dale Hugo finished runner-up for the second consecutive year, polling 17 votes and collecting four best-on-grounds.
He tied with East Wagga-Kooringal’s outstanding recruit Tim Davison, who has proven one of the biggest additions to the league since his arrival.
For Taylor, the win capped off a big year for the 30-year-old.
He returned to Langtry Oval to coach his old club this season, and led Marrar to the second week of the finals before being bundled out.
He has not missed a game for the Bombers and has arguably been the most consistent performer in the competition.
Playing across half-back, Taylor has been a rock for Marrar and spends most of his time playing loose to cut off opposition go-forward.
A highlight of his 22 votes last night was when he was awarded the best-on-ground three votes for Marrar’s round 13 loss to East Wagga-Kooringal.
Temora’s Jackson Moye was a runaway winner in the reserve grade Alan Carroll Medal, polling a total 24 votes to finish nine in front of Marrar’s Matt Malone.
TRYC young star Sarah O’Leary was rewarded for another standout season by winning the A grade netball medal as well as being named the netball rising star.
EWK ruckman Nick Hull was named the football rising star.
