The Sturt United Royal Arch Chapter will be re-established at an installation and investiture ceremony at the Masonic Centre on Tarcutta Street tonight.
Freemasons from Sydney, Newcastle and surrounding areas, including the head of the United Supreme Grand Chapter of Mark and Royal Arch Masons of NSW and ACT, Most Excellent Companion Edward Keenahan, will be in the city for the celebrations.
Companion Keenahan will be joined by associate principals to install the new First Principal of the Chapter, Very Excellent Companion Roger Whitehead from Leeton.
Dwindling numbers saw the chapter forced into recess in 2009. After plenty of hard work by its remaining members, and a determination to see Sturt United reborn, today is being marked a triumphant day for the region.
Secretary Geoff Amos said the group had about 12 members when it went into recess and would recommence with double that figure.
Mr Amos said that although the chapter had an extensive history in Wagga, it wasn’t limited by geographical boundaries.
The chapter is always looking for more members and anyone is welcome, provided they’re a Freemason.
Companion Keenahan will be accompanied by the representative of the Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of NSW and ACT, Right Worshipful Brother Ian Alexander, Past Assistant Grand Master.
Other office bearers for the next 12 months will also be sworn in tonight.
