This is the second year in a row the city has remained off the list, in stark contrast to 2008, 2009 and 2010. 

Wagga crime manager Rod Smith said while there were still alcohol-related assaults in the city it has experienced a 26 per cent drop in the past 12 months. 

“This time last year there were 197 reported assaults which involved alcohol, while this year that number has come down to 145,” Inspector Smith said, praising harm-minimisation strategies.

“There are a couple of contributing factors but the number reflects tighter management by publicans and a co-operative approach between law enforcement and bar managers.” 

In prior years the city has had three venues feature on the list, including Capital nightclub, Home Hotel and the Victoria Hotel. 

Capital nightclub manager Matthew Dietrich said the business – which only recently changed hands – has taken a pro-active approach to anti-social behaviour. 

“We train and work closely with our staff, a local security firm and police to ensure we provide a safe and fun environment,” Mr Dietrich said. 

The nightclub reported 24 assaults from July 2007 to June 2008, 18 assaults from July 1, 2009, and June 1, 2010. 

For the same 2009 period the Victoria Hotel had nine assault incidents while the Home Hotel had 12 for the 2010 year. 

Mr Dietrich said while the popular nightspot was part of the Joint Barred List initiative, it did encourage patrons to have fun through revamped dance nights. 

“We provide a very fun and safe environment for people to enjoy a night out,” he said.
