Armada Hospitality, the owners of the Capital, is now "tens of thousands of dollars" out of pocket and "gutted" about the cancellation.
Director of operations Craig Shearer said the reason Joel and Benji Madden, the founders of rock band Good Charlotte, wouldn't be coming to Wagga or Albury anymore was a mystery.
"Outlaying tens of thousands of dollars for the bookings to fall through at the last minute is obviously not great," Mr Shearer said.
According to Mr Shearer, the gig had been booked and fully deposited with the Maddens' management in Los Angeles several months ago, but the Australian promoter had failed to secure the dates.
The performance next Friday was going to be free for partygoers.
"We've been doing this for quite a while and have brought some of the biggest Australian and international acts here over the past six or seven years," Mr Shearer said.
"So we were pretty stunned when we were told the guys weren't coming."
Mr Shearer said they were still chasing the promoter to find out why the Madden Brothers would not be performing.
Because they have left it to the last minute to cancel the event, Mr Shearer said they would work to provide something else in March.
"We know a lot of people are going to be disappointed," he said.
"In the coming weeks we plan to announce replacement gigs for the second weekend in March."
Yesterday, many people said they had not been aware Joel and Benji were coming to Wagga on The Daily Advertiser Facebook page.
Some were disappointed they would not be making an appearance in the city, while others were not.
The Madden Brothers have frequented Australian TV screens over the summer, appearing on a number of advertisements to promote eating KFC.
Joel, who is married to US celebrity Nicole Ritchie, is also a judge on the popular Channel 9 talent show The Voice Australia.
