THE first ever "Tri-footy Challenge" will be held this Sunday in conjunction with Ganmain Public School's annual triathlon.
Event co-ordinator, Jason Hamblin first came up with the idea as a way to bring AFL clubs from both the Riverina Football and Farrer leagues together as a pre-season face-off, as well as finding out which club has the best fitness.
Hamblin attended the public school when he was younger, and played for the Ganmain Lions for a number of years.
He says he is expecting the event to be a resounding success.
"I think it will be very successful, it's a very interesting concept," said Hamblin.
"I invited all clubs from the RFL and Farrer leagues, and so far eight have said they will do it.
"The Tumbarumba footy club has even sent us a request asking if they can be in it, so I'd say in the future more clubs and leagues will become involved.
"I have never seen this sort of concept before, it will be interesting to see how it goes in weeks and years to come."
Hamblin says the event is set to become annual, and is expecting it to grow in the future.
Each club will be allowed to enter as many players as they like, and the first eight finishers from each club will have their times averaged to produce a winner.
Individual participants will also be awarded prizes.
AFL House has donated a perpetual trophy, and cash prizes will also be up for grabs.
"AFL House has really been pushing it, and the town has gotten behind it," said Hamblin.
"The school event already has sponsors, but we are expecting other sponsors to get on board in the future."
The Tri-footy Challenge will be held this Sunday February 14 at Ganmain.
