NEWLY formed Group 20 club Bidgee Hurricanes will make its playing debut at the West Wyalong Knockout on February 24.
Knockout organiser Peter Campbell confirmed Bidgee Hurricanes had taken up the last place in the 16-team draw for the two-day carnival at Ron Crowe Oval.
Campbell said the appearance of Bidgee Hurricanes, which was formed by the amalgamation of Yanco-Wamoon and Narrandera, would add significant spice to the knockout.
“It will definitely be interesting to see how they (Hurricanes) shape up,” Campbell said.
“This should be a good test for them.”
Bidgee Hurricanes was formed after intense negotiations between Yanco-Wamoon and Narrandera, a club that had been without a Group 20 presence for several years.
Campbell said the makeup of the draw for the $10,000 West Wyalong Knockout would not be finalised until Friday week.
“The actual cut-off for entries is February 17,” he said.
“At this stage there are 16 teams, but if any drop out there is time for other teams to come in.
“Any team that drops out before the close of entries will get its nomination fee back.”
Group Nine clubs Brothers, Kangaroos, Southcity, Temora Albury and Junee head the Knockout entries, with host club West Wyalong expected to make a bold challenge.
Campbell said West Wyalong had lost veteran prop Marty Lancaster to retirement, but the club had retained explosive Mark Wood and strongman Chris Maybury.
